Podcasting 101

The final week in ETEC brings us to audio recordings. This week we created an audio recording using the free program Audacity. The recording material covered the difference between downloadable audio files and true podcasting. Audacity was used in this project to record, edit, and merge audio files to complete an example of a podcast. The project can be listened to by using the player below to start the recording.

The initial recording was easy enough, but then I had to integrate the music and add effects. The first obstacle to tackle was adding background music to compliment the voice audio recording. After watching the short tutorial, I was able to add an mp3 track to the voice recording. The next thing I needed to do was remove an awkward pause from the voice recording. I used the selection tool to select the pause and deleted the extra time to make the voice section smoother.

I learned the biggest difference between a podcast and a downloadable audio file is the way that it is delivered. I also learned that there are plenty of free audio tools available that produce excellent results. In the future I plan to use Audacity for any audio editing that I need to do. It will be helpful for educational projects as well as business projects.
